You Can’t Outgive Your Mentor
Great mentoring relationships require abundant generosity…from both sides. We’re not meant to keep score, but instead, live a life of radical generosity. When you are both adding value and building up the other person, you’ll avoid parasitic mentorships.
To do this, reverse mentorship is necessary. Even if the person is older and wiser than you in a few areas, they can still learn from you. You can impart knowledge to them about subjects that are rapidly changing because of the digital age or relevant to the trends of their business. You can help peers see different perspectives and think through new solutions, and they can do the same for you. Younger mentees will often see the world differently than you do. Learn from them and grow.
