George Verwer died today. He was undoubtedly one of the great missionary leaders of all times. Beyond his founding of #OperationMobilization, his passion for world mission was perhaps one of the greatest catalysts to reach the world with the Good News in the last 50 years.
He was first and foremost an encourager. I first met him 30 years ago when the vision of @onehopeministry was just getting started, he could have minimized our grand plans or pointed out all our naive ambitions, instead that day and for the last 3 decades he cheerled and championed anything and everything we tried or attempted.
Random notes from around the world would arrive with his hurried and familiar hand sharing how he had seen our literature being distributed and how proud he was of us, and we should never stop with our vision of God’s Word, Every Child.
I was once struggling with some of the duplicate reporting I was experiencing in some countries. He very sarcastically commented, ‘OH No, you mean that a young person may actually have gotten 2 copies of God’s Word? That’s so disturbing’, and then he broke out in laughter. He taught me to never take anything or anyone too seriously, especially myself. He could deliver that message, because no leader of his magnitude, that I know of, has ever lived so genuinely, authentically or humbly.
I wish I had more time with him, but he was always busy doing what he loved most; mobilizing, catalyzing and propelling the Gospel that he loved forward, always forward… #georgeverwer

So blessed, humbled, and inspired to be with the leaders of the Africa Assemblies of God: Superintendents, Presidents, Missionaries, & Bishops. Shared a challenge for them, as a member of the denomination’s Church Planting Commission, to double their existing 80,000 churches in Africa, over the next 10 years for the MM33 initiative - a Decade of Revival Fire. The Holy Spirit was so strong in their business session they passed a resolution and a covenant to triple their number of churches, ministers, and missionaries between 2023 and 2033. I believe it. Their commitment, vibrancy, & passion is so genuine, authentic, and contagious. So grateful for their leadership and their partnership with @onehopeministry.
